The November 2005 Update

Our St Andrews Day Dance will be held on Saturday 26th November 05 from 8pm till 1am, in the St Vincent Bowling Club, Glasgow. The music will be provided by James Cameron, and Lex Keith. Tickets priced £6 can be obtained from Committee members, and our Secretary Catherine MacArthur.
The GIA Opening Concert was held in St Columba Hall on Friday 7th October 05. The President introduced Kirsteen Grant, our Bean an Tighe for the evening. Kirsteen, a former member of the GG, previous Mod Gold Medal winner, and presently conductor of The Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir.

The programme was largely sustained by the members of the Glasgow Islay Junior Gaelic Choir. This concert is usually used as a rehearsal for the Mod, but this year they were going to Nova Scotia instead.

A very enjoyable evening was brought to a close with a witty vote of thanks from our Director, Gordon Gillies. He wished the choir a super trip to Nova Scotia.

The GIA Burns Supper will be held on Saturday 21st of January 2006 in the St Vincent Bowling Club, Glasgow. The Immortal Memory, will be given by John Haining, a Junior Vice President of The Burns Federation. This is usually a sell-out, so get your tickets from our secretary as soon as possible.

The Annual Gathering will be held on Friday 3rd March 2006. We are delighted to have Professor Iain Campbell as our chairman. Iain is the son of that stalwart of the concert platform, the late, Mary C McNiven.
We, are one of the first of the Highland associations to be faced with major problems regarding Halls. The Henry Wood Hall will stop operating at the end of this year. The Mitchell theatre is being refurbished, and its Moir Hall no longer available for functions, as it is to become a computer room for the library. We are in the process of confirming the Partick Burgh Hall as the venue for the Concert, and the Oran Mhor Hall at the top of Byres road, for the dance. This will be from 10pm till 2am. The costs of this venture will be high, so we will need all the support that we can get. Fergie MacDonald will provide the music, and a great evening should be enjoyed by all.

The 200 club is still needing members, get your application form from this site, or from Catherine our secretary. Some forms did not reach the members bank, so there has been no contribution from there. I have contacted a few members, asking them to contact their bank, to get things up and running. Prizes have been sent to the lucky winners, and I will update the winners list when I get confirmation from our treasurer Liz.

That’s all for now, Alasdair
