Situated between Loch Tarbert and Tarbert Bay, 12 miles north of Craighouse, the Stalker’s Cottage is in an ideal position for exploring the north end of Jura. It is a semi-detached cottage set on its own above Tarbert bay and the Sound of Jura. Accommodation comprises a large sitting room with open fire, TV, Video and Hi-fi; Dining room; Kitchen equipped with electric hob and oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave; Study/4th bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs are three double rooms, one with double and two twins with fine views in both directions. It is centrally heated throughout.
Close to the house is a beautiful sandy beach (300 yards.) A walk of half a mile across the hill brings you to the head of Loch Tarbert which runs for 8 miles out to the Atlantic. This is a wild part of Jura with great possibilities for walkers: west to the remote west coast with its raised beaches or north to George Orwell’s house at Barnhill and beyond that the famous whirlpool of Corrievrechan. The road north runs through ancient oakwoods intercepted with remote beaches and wonderful views across to the mainland. Brown trout fishing is available on a loch 3 miles up the road.
The road south to Craighouse provides wonderful views of the Paps of Jura. Craighouse itself is tiny but vibrant with a distillery, village shop and hotel. Week-ends see a busy social life at the pub with frequent ceilidhs in the village hall. Visitors are always made most welcome. Jura House gardens has gained national status as an important Scottish west coast garden.

Stalkers Cottage is available all year round on a Saturday to Saturday basis. Entry to the cottage would normally be after 3 pm and departure 10.30 am.
Well-behaved dogs are allowed at a supplement of £10.
Cost is £325 per week October - June | £350 per week July - September. Please include a deposit of £50 per week to secure any booking.

Travelling to Jura
To get to Jura you will have to travel via the island of Islay. This can be done by plane from Glasgow Airport (British Airways 0845 773 3377) www.britishairways.com or CalMac ferry from Kennacraig (01880 730 253) www.calmac.co.uk. When you arrive on Islay you will then take a 5 min ferry ride to Jura (Ferry runs to a timetable), you will then take the only road for eight miles to Craighouse, drive through the village and carry on for a further 12 miles. At the bottom of a long steep hill take the right turn at the shed, this is Tarbert. Follow the road and take the first left, Stalkers Cottage is the first of two adjoined houses.
