Kilchiaran Farm Cottage, on Islay's west coast and Lagganview Cottage in Port Charlotte village, are two self catering facilities on the Inner Hebridean Island of Islay.
Kilchiaran Farm Cottage
This semi-detached, two storey cottage, built in 1890 as accommodation for slate workers, is fully modernised and sleeps up to five adults. It is situated on Kilchiaran Farm, a working farm with both sheep and cattle, which has a distinctive round steading built in 1825, now a listed building.
The cottage has a lounge with a satellite TV and log burning stove. The kitchen has a spacious dining area and the following appliances: cooker, oven, microwave, fridge, freezer and washing machine. The bathroom has both a separate shower and a bath.
There are two bedrooms on the upper floor; one double and one with a single bed and bunk beds.
The cottage has solid fuel central heating throughout, with coal and logs provided and electricity is included in the price.
Kilchiaran Bay and Chapel are a five minute walk from the cottage. Also nearby is the outstanding Kilchoman Beach, and viewpoint at Granny's Rock.
Lagganview Cottage, Port Charlotte
Located in the historic village of Port Charlotte this two-storey stone cottage was completely renovated in 2008 to a very high standard, and sleeps up to six adults. It commands excellent uninterrupted views over Loch Indaal.
On the ground floor are the kitchen/dining area, double bedroom with en-suite bathroom (with bath and separate shower) and utility room. The kitchen has a cooker, fridge/freezer and microwave, while the washingmachine and tumble drier are in the utility room.
On the upper floor are the lounge, two bedrooms (one twin, one double) and a shower room. The lounge has a TV and wall mounted flame effect electric fire.
The cottage is fully centrally heated via an oil boiler. Electricity and oil are included within the weekly charge.
How to find us
On arrival on Islay, make your way to the village of Bridgend, then follow the signs for Port Charlotte/Portnahaven. You will drive through the village of Bruichladdich, and two miles further on, you will arrive in the village of Port Charlotte.
Lagganview: this cottage is on the main street in the village. You will pass the Port Charlotte Hotel on your left, and also the village shop and petrol station also on your left. Lagganview is in the row of houses on your immediate right past the shop. It is the house with the front porch, overlooking the open grassed area.
Kilchiaran Farm Cottage: In the centre of Port Charlotte, drive past the Loch Indaal Hotel on your right, turning right at the signpost for 'Kilchiaran'. Follow this road for three miles and you will descend a steep hill with views of the sea. Continue past the round steading, and a further hundred yards along this road on your right is a gate with the sign 'Kilchiaran Cottage'. Follow the track up to the cottages - it is the right hand cottage of the pair.
How to Get Here
By Car: From Glasgow, drive to Kennacraig - this journey should take approximately two and a half hours, or longer should you wish to take in the beautiful scenery. Take the A82 up Loch Lomondside, turning onto the A83 at Tarbet - continue on through both Inveraray and Lochgilphead towards Tarbert on Loch Fyne. The ferry port of Kennacraig is just five miles on from Tarbert. Please note that Kennacraig is simply a ferry terminal and not a town or village. It is clearly signposted on the Campbeltown road, but people have been known to miss it because they were expecting more.

By Ferry: Caledonian MacBrayne operate the two hour crossing which runs twice daily throughout the year, once on Sundays, with additional sailings during the summer season. By Air: Flybe run a 35 minute scheduled service, Monday - Saturday from Glasgow Airport to Islay, in the morning and afternoon. This is the quickest way and can provide spectacular views of the islands and Kintyre. This service is operated by Loganair.
