Originally built as a traditional Hebridean farmhouse, Torra has enjoyed a transformation, becoming a relaxing country home, beautifully furnished with flair and imagination. It enjoys a magnificent elevated position overlooking Laggan Bay with views west to Northern Ireland's Antrim coast and spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, whilst at the rear of the house, peaceful forests and moors rise to the hills beyond. The magnificent sunsets have to be experienced to be believed! Torra lies four miles from the island's capital of Bowmore and six miles from the southern ferry terminal village of Port Ellen.
The house has three tastefully furnished bedrooms, each enjoying wonderful views and with full en-suite facilities. The ground floor bedroom has two single beds, while upstairs there is another room with two single beds and a third bedroom with a double bed making the house suitable for six guests. The bright, lounge boasts an open fire, plenty of sumptuous seating, teletext TV, video recorder, CD player and radio. Through the hallway and into the well-appointed, spacious kitchen/dining area, you will find an electric cooker, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, deep fryer, food processor and many other electric gadgets that the modern cook looks for.
The main bathroom hosts a WC , bath and wash-hand basin, whilst in the utility room, alongside a large sink, we have installed a washing machine and separate tumble-dryer to take care of all your laundry worries. In line with our environmental ethos, we offer guests the opportunity to dry their laundry on the outside washing line and appreciate the freshness that only breeze blown clothes can provide. An oil fired central heating system keeps the house cosy and each room has separate radiator thermostats to control room temperature. We have provided a small library of books and board games for guests of all ages. You will also find invaluable tourist information, ensuring you are aware of local events while you are on holiday.
The front door leads directly into to the walled garden, where past owners have left their mark with beautiful and bountiful ornate shrubs and trees. This garden has fabulous views across Laggan Bay and out towards Ireland and beyond. For guest pleasure, we have provided comfortable garden seats and sun loungers. Lie back and listen to the birds singing as they happily enjoy the reats left for them on one of the branches of a nearby tree, or as night approaches, watch and listen for bats and Barn Owls as they search for their evening meal. As Torra has the benefit of having a dry-stone walled garden, and gates at the driveway entrance, it affords youngsters a freely exciting place to explore and play. This in turn leaves all the family appreciating Islay's motto - 'Islay, and it's goodbye to care'.
