Cuil Sith
(pronounced 'cool shee' - Gaelic for peaceful corner)

cuil sith

Cuil Sith is a charming, intimate house, beautifully furnished with flair and imagination. Situated on the edge of Ballygrant village, six miles from the island's capital of Bowmore, and surrounded by spectacular countryside where deer and choughs are often sighted, it is only four miles away from the ferry terminal at Port Askaig.

The house has one tastefully furnished double bedroom, enjoying full en-suite facilities, and another two, pretty twin-bedded rooms, making the house suitable for six guests. The large, bright, south-facing lounge boasts plenty of sumptuous seating, teletext TV, video recorder, CD player and radio. Through the glass panelled door in the beautifully appointed, spacious kitchen/dining area, you will find an electric hob with accompanying grill and twin ovens, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, deep fryer, food processor and many other electric gadgets that the modern cook looks for.

The shower room hosts a WC , shower and wash-hand basin, whilst in the utility room, alongside a big deep sink, we have installed a washing machine and tumble-dryer to take care of all your laundry worries. In line with our environmental ethos, we offer guests the opportunity to dry their laundry on the outside washing line and appreciate the freshness that only breeze blown clothes can provide. The house is centrally heated throughout with night-storage and wall mounted electric heaters, all with thermostats to control room temperature.

In the hallway there is a small library of books and board games for guests of all ages. You will also find, in the hallway, invaluable tourist information, ensuring you are aware of local events while you are on holiday.

Patio doors lead from the lounge to the well-kept garden, where you can relax and enjoy the spectacular views afforded by the natural amphitheatre created by the surrounding hills. For guest pleasure, we have provided comfortable garden seats and sun loungers. Lie back and listen to the birds singing as they happily enjoy the treats left for them on one of the branches of a nearby tree, or as night approaches watch out for barn owls as they go searching for their evening meals. As Cuil Sith has the benefit of having a dry-stone walled garden and gates at the driveway entrance, it affords youngsters a freely exciting place to explore and play. This in turn leaves all the family appreciating Islay's motto - 'Islay, and it's goodbye to care'.
