Thursday 12th August 2010 dawned dull, misty and very very windy, not a good start to the day! On arriving at the show field around 9am, Iain Mcarthur, Kevin Campbell and Peter Campbell were trying to erect the marquee, (and I should say that trying was probably an understatement), even with an additional 6 of us, the marquee proved to be difficult to handle in the wind. After Iain Macarthur and the tent nearly took off
the marquee was finally secured by several stakes and Peter Campbells Car.
After setting up the day started quietly with a few visitors both members, local and some visitors to the island.
Our tartan was on display and received a lot of positive comments along with some orders. This tartan was designed by Robert Mackenzie one of our Honorary past Presidents with a little help from his friends at the GIA.
Ena and Joyces baking was once again the highlight of the day. This year there were quite a few other burger stands, and all on a par with our prices, so the burgers didnt go so well, around 160 were sold.
John, Catheryn and Iain were in charge of the raffle and proved to be very persuasive sales people.
Elizabeth was on Tea/coffee duty and Sheila and Ena were behind the Cakes
a good place to be, Joyce came along later and let Ena have a break.
Paul and Robbie were on burger duty and Alison was taking the money for the burgers. Janette was taking orders for the Tartan and money for the Teas. Peter lost the toss and was on table clearing duty!
The day brightened up and the wind did die down slightly and the afternoon passed in a blur of teas and coffees, not a dram in sight! A good fun day for us all, see you again next year August 2011.
