GLASGOW ISLAY ASSOCIATION BURNS CEILIDH AT

KINGSTON BOWLING CLUB POLLOCKSHAWS.

A great night's entertainment to honour our National Bard Robert Burns took place in the south side of the city on Saturday 19th January.
The evening got underway with our President Peter Campbell welcoming everybody, he then recited “The Selkirk Grace”.
The haggis was then piped in by Greg Harley ( 13year old) to the tune “ Corn Rigs”.
The haggis was expertly addressed by Gordon Caskie in his usual enthusiastic manner. Greg then piped the haggis back to the kitchen to the tune “ A Man's a Man “ . The haggis was carried by our Vice President Malcolm Campbell.
All 80 guests tucked into their Burns fare which was cooked and served by caterers Alex Graham . Clean plates all round tells its own story!
The evenings entertainment continued with songs from the following vocalists ;

Peter Campbell sang “Sine Bhan” and “A Man's a Man “.

Janette MacArthur sang “Ye Banks and Braes“ and “Coming thro` the Rye”.

Margaret Campbell sang “Ae Fond Kiss“ and “Back to Bonnie Scotland”.

Sheena McKenzie sang “Ca` The Yowes to the knowes” and “Whistle and I`ll come to you my Lad ".

Greg Harley then played “Leaving Port Askaig” and “Highland Cathedral” on the bagpipes. This young lad has a future. The Bard himself would have been delighted with all renditions well done to all our Artists.

The dancing got under way to “The Clansman Ceilidh Band” which consisted of Iain, Nicola and Elaine. An excellent three piece band, the dance floor never being empty all night tells how everyone enjoyed the dancing.
