The Summer Update
The GIA Annual General Meeting in early June has come and gone, and left us with some mixed feelings, firstly, one of sadness that our Secretary, Catherine MacArthur, resigned after several years of valiant service. We wish her well with her extra responsibilities at work, and look forward to seeing her at our future functions.
Secondly, the apathy of GIA members, who fail to support a small hard working group in our Committee, it would be easy to say, why bother.
However there was a brighter side, the fact that we have three new committee members, as a result of our appeal at the Gathering.
We welcome on board, Rosamunde Smith, Janette MacArthur, and Caroline Gordon. We are pleased to say that Caroline has taken on the post of Secretary.
We have arranged the syllabus for 2006 2007, which you will find on this web site.
Please note the Date for the Annual Gathering, it is the second Friday in March, not the usual first Friday.
Invitations will soon be going out for our Senior Citizens Dinner and Ceilidh, to be held on Saturday 2nd September, in Westerton Hall, Bearsden. If you do not receive one by the middle of August, and think that you are entitled to one, please contact Caroline.
I have just finished updating our membership database. I am certain that there are mistakes in it, please let me know of any changes involving members, ie address, deaths etc., that you know of that will help us to keep the data base accurate.
The 200 Club page has been updated with the latest winners. If you have not already joined the Club, please do, as the income from the Club is going into a special fund for our 150th Anniversary in 2012.
Once again, if you have any article relating to Islay or its people that you would like to have considered for this web site, please contact me.
I hope that you all enjoy the remainder of the summer, and I look forward to meeting many of you in the future.
I sign off with some pictures of the island,
Alasdair.
