The GIA web site Since recently mentioning this site on The ‘Islay List’ there has been a large increase in the numbers visiting the site. It shows the great demand for information about Islay, and its people, both past and present. Remember that if you would like to contribute to the site, please contact me.

Islay Family History Society Continuing the theme from above, I would like to recommend the work done by a small group of dedicated volunteers who run the society office which is located at Islay House Square, Bridgend, Islay. The office is open at limited times between May and September. The society has OPRs, census data from 1841 onwards, lots of local genealogical info, and family trees that have been given to them for reference. I know that a lot of this info is available on the internet through the hard work of people like Ted Larson and many others. However they have one important extra advantage, they have local knowledge.
Visit them when in Islay, write them at the above address, or contact them by email at islayfamilyhistory@lineone.net. Being volunteers, a donation for their help would be appreciated.

This has been a happy and eventful year.

The above photo at the March 05 Gathering was taken by Sandy Rankin. It shows Norma, myself, and Iain Carmichael, enjoying a dram at the end of the concert.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank our committee for their hard work during the year, and to wish them and Islay folk throughout the World, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Raise your glass, of whatever Islay Tipple and toast friends, and absent friends,

Bliadhna mhath Ur,

Alasdair
