Help Protect Our Environment

At Ballygrant Inn & Restaurant we believe that it is just as important to protect and
preserve the environment as it is to ensure our guests have a comfortable stay. In 2000 we joined the Green Tourism Business scheme. We were inspected for the scheme in the summer and acheived the Bronze award. Although pleased with this for a first attempt, we thought we sh
ould do more to protect the environment and manage our business in an environmentally friendly way to achieve a higher award. For the next three years we worked together with our local council and recycling group to recycle and re-use as much as we could and minimise waste. Our efforts were rewarded with the Gold Award we acheived in summer 2003. At Ballygrant Inn & Restaurant we continue to maintain this Gold standard in the following ways;

- Vegetable kitchen waste is put on our compost heap.
- Old Newspapers are used to light our stoves.
- Waste paper is shredded and put on our compost heap.
- We only use low energy bulbs in our light fittings.
- Our stoves burn logs from fallen or wind blown trees.
- We use liquid soaps and liquid shampoo in rooms to minimise waste.
- We use eco-friendly cleaning materials.
- All empty bottles and cans are recyled.
- All cardboard is recycled.
- Books and magazines are recycled in our local paperbanks.
- Grass cuttings, fallen leaves and garden waste are composted.
- We operate a no smoking policy in all bedrooms and dining areas..
- We use fresh local and Scottish produce on our menu's to avoid wasteful "food miles".
