Islay - A Whisky Lovers Paradise! Islay is well known the world over for its malt whisky with 7 Distilleries making the amber nectar. Ardbeg, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Lagavulin and Laphraoig attract many visitors from all corners of the globe to see the whisky being made. All the distilleries welcome visitors and offer tours all year round with a complimentary dram at the end of the tour. Most of the Distilleries also have Visitor Centres with shops, where you can buy a bottle of your favourite dram and Distillery merchandise. Ballygrant Inn and Restaurant is the ideal place to base yourself if coming to Islay to tour the Distilleries. Every year between May and June the Islay Festival of Malt and Music takes place. The festival is a whisky lovers dream with each Distillery having their own day during which they offer tours, tastings, masterclasses and much more. During the evenings, there are Ceilidhs and Whisky Tastings. People from all over the world flock to Islay for the Festival and it is one of the biggest events in the Islay calendar. is also the Clubhouse for the Islay Whisky Club. The Club was formed during
the 2001 Whisky Festival by Bob Velthuysen, previously of the Marine hotel,
Bowmore, Islay , the Club currently has over 300 members from 26 countries
around the world. The Club is for Islay Whisky Lovers, to join you pay a one
off lifetime membership fee, receiving an Islay Whisky Club polo shirt, membership
certificate and membership card and everytime you visit the Clubhouse you
get a complimentary dram. The Club offers all sorts of benefits such as special
tastings and events, in different countries and during the Festival and the
