| Sunday 19th August and Islay Airport Open Day. Unlike the previous day at Kilchoman Gala Day, the weather was grey and damp. This year's visiting aircraft were a 'crop-spraying' biplane that undertook some rather stomach churning flips, a world war one biplane that looked as if it was constructed from balsa wood and tissue paper (and possibly was), a hawk jet trainer which made flying fast and looping look very easy, a British Airways Saab, which has occasionally substituted on the Glasgow-Islay run, and Bruno Schroder's Pilatus which gave flights round Islay and up to Colonsay to holders of lucky programmes. Entertainment was provided by Islay Pipe Band, there were demonstrations by the emergency services and the whole affair was opened by Lord George Robertson of Port Ellen and expert commentary by the redoubtable Jim Davis. Enjoy the pictures. | |
